All the fancy words, clever wordplay, and puns are a waste of time and money if they don’t tap into people’s desires and needs.
Now, is it possible to take one glance at a copy and determine whether it is solid gold or pure trash?
Of course! It would be nonsense to answer with a no. Even though a bad copy can be bad in so many different ways, there are some common sense practices that can help make an accurate judgement.
- It must grab your attention. The headline must be concise, informative, and eye-catching.
- The copy body has to be better at keeping you plugged in than a mystery novel.
- The message it has to be crystal clear. Jargon should only be used only if it suits the needs of the buyer persona you are targeting.
- Credibility and trustworthiness are vital. If your copy has the sincerity of a 3 dollar bill, you lost them.
- It has to guide your reader through several steps, from informing them to explaining why they need it so much. The thought of purchasing should come naturally.
